New York ArtExpo 2003 Report
|
|||
Paintings, drawings, and graphics by Surrealist and Neo-Romantic masters were featured during the 2003 New York International ArtExpo at the Gallery of Surrealism booth. This year we were proud to present a comprehensive retrospective of the works of German Surrealist Dietrich Schuchardt. The artist and his wife, Annelies, were in attendance and happy to be able to greet the American public. Schuchardt artworks spanning over 20 years were on exhibit and eagerly acquired by new and old collectors. |

The retrospective sparkled with the public unveiling of Schuchardt's Four Seasons suite of 4 gouache paintings, created over the course of the previous year. Also on view for the first time was what is undoubtedly Schuchardt's most ambitious graphic edition to date: Heracles Redux, a multi-media extravaganza comprising six sheets in portfolio. Each sheet consists of two separate etchings both hand painted by the artist and an original pencil drawing. This tour de force attracted considerable acclaim and brisk sales from those in attendance.

Other highlights of the show included examples of the Dessin Communique, a variation of the Exquisite Corpse from the 1930's containing original drawings by such luminaries as Andre Breton, Remedios Varo, and Yves Tanguy. Dealers and collectors acquired excellent examples of works by Hundertwasser, Salvador Dali, Dorothea Tanning, Victor Brauner, Matta, Max Ernst among others.
This year marked the ArtExpo's 25th Anniversary. The fair was held at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in New York City on February 27 - March 3, 2003. Thanks to everyone who came out to visit us -- please come see us again next year at ArtExpo New York 2004 where we will exhibit in booth #1222! |
