In the 1970's, only a few years before his passing, Giorgio de Chirico became interested in the creation of small sculptures and sculpture-jewelry. The artist created forms in clay and contracted the casting (with the exception of some castings executed abroad) to the Artistic Foundry Cavallari, Rome.

These sculptures were cast using the lost wax process in silver-plated or golden bronze patinas. For each subject a few un-numbered, not-for-sale test castings were produced.

The widow Isa de Chirico and the Fondazione Giorgio e Isa de Chirico authorized the completion of the series and the series was at last completed in 1998. Each multiple sculpture is stamped with the name of the Artist, the name of the Foundry and the edition number. All the examples were not cast before the death of the artist.
