Drawn, 1932, at the artist's studio, 2 Rue Jacques Mawas, Paris XV. This drawing, from imagination, is not unrelated to a reading of Dostoevski's Crime and Punishment. At this time, the artist was struck repeatedly by a sense of the immanence and aftermath of violent events.
